Pitney Bowes Announced Chapter 11 Bankruptcy for the eCommerce Division

Pitney Bowes announced late yesterday (Aug 8, 2024) that they have declared chapter 11 bankruptcy for the “eCommerce Division”, the official launch partner for the PackageHub Returns™ consolidation product. This decision was out of our control and will have an immediate impact on processing eligible returns at your store.

What To Do & What This Means For PBC Franchisee’s

  1. On Friday, August 9 — Any Pitney Bowes returns consolidation boxes with 5 or more items should be closed and shipped via UPS today.
  2. If you do not have enough items to qualify for a consolidated shipment (5 items is the minimum) send them via USPS at the end of the day Friday.
  3. Starting Saturday, August 10 — DO NOT consolidate any shipments. Send any pre-labeled Pitney Bowes returns as single shipments via USPS.
  4. If a customer presents an item with Pitney Bowes QR code, DO NOT Consolidate. Scan the QR code, print the USPS label, and send via USPS.
  5. We are actively engaging with Pitney Bowes to determine how they will address payment for work already performed and will update the network as soon as we have reached an agreement.

The Good News:

PackageHub Returns™ is in ongoing negotiations with other Returns Logistics providers to use the Consolidated product and PackageHub® national network. We will continue to pursue these contracts with improved economics and simplified workflows as the chief goals.

We know this is disappointing news to our franchisee’s and we share your frustration. We are confident that PackageHub Returns™ remains a solid and sustainable product and we regret that Pitney Bowes will no longer play a role in the program. We thank you for your assistance in launching and refining the program and eagerly look forward to adding profitable partners to the network.

Strength in Numbers, United We Thrive.
